Patients often ask their doctors, are hemorrhoids permanent? This condition can be caused by a lot of factors and the basis of treatment depends on what has caused it. The causative agent of hemorrhoid inflammation is still unknown yet there are a lot of factors which are known to have caused this condition. Some of the factors that can cause this condition include bad bowel habits, constipation, diarrhea, no exercise, many nutritional problems, lack of fiber in the diet, increased abdominal pressure especially in pregnant women, ascitis, genetic factors, the absence of the valves of the veins and even aging. Some of the conditions that might also increase the chances of inflammation include prolonged sitting, pelvic floor problems and chronic coughing.
In pregnancy, the fetus on the area of the abdomen might cause the hemorrhoidal vessels to be inflamed and enlarge. Upon delivery, the added abdominal pressure will be lowered and the symptoms will usually be alleviated after a couple of hours. In normal conditions, the hemorrhoid cushions are an integral part of our human anatomy since it protects the veins in the anal area. However, due to certain conditions it might become a pathological disease which is often located in the left area or the right posterior position of the anal area. Hemorrhoids are normally composed of neither veins nor arteries but small blood vessels with connective tissue and smooth muscles. Once the anal sphincter experiences added pressure due to obesity or incontinence, the hemorrhoidal veins are inflamed and this causes the condition.
So, are hemorrhoids permanent? This condition is often temporary and will heal fast if proper treatment is made. It is not like other medical conditions such as colds which can go away in just a couple of days. Hemorrhoidal based disease can become continuous and painful if the proper treatment and diagnosis of the root cause will not be done.
Are hemorrhoids permanent and what is its diagnosis?
Hemorrhoids can only diagnose through proper physical examination. Visual examination is done in the anal area and inside the anus. Physicians will often check for prolapsed or external hemorrhoids. A rectal examination is done in order to detect and types of tumors, enlarged protates, abscesses and polyps. The examination is often done through sedation if there is the presence of pain and will often be confirmed through the use of anoscopy. A small hollow tube of a light source is used in order to detect if there is inflammation inside the anal area. If severe pain is felt then there is a possibility of anal fissure.
If the internal type of hemorrhoids is present, they will often originate from the anal area. They will often be covered by the columnar epithelium through lack of pain rectors. Internal hemorrhoids are not permanent and they can be treated through proper medication and even surgery. In order to know the severity of the condition, physicians will grade the condition according to severity. Grade one internal hemorrhoids have no prolapse and will often have large blood vessels while for grade two, there will be pushing down due to spontaneously reduce. For Grade three there will be prolapsed and bearing down that requires human reduction while Grade four has prolapsed which cannot be reduced. Again, the treatment depends on the grade of the internal hemorrhoid.
